Deputy Director - Programmes

Professor Simon-Peter Kafui Aheto is the Deputy Director (Programmes) of the Digital Youth Village and Centre for Digital Youth Development at the University of Ghana. He is an Associate Professor of Information Technology and Education at the Department of Distance Education, School of Continuing and Distance Education, College of Education, University of Ghana. Prof.Aheto is the Coordinator for International Programmes at the College of Education.

Prof.Aheto holds a Doctor of Technology in Information Technology from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, a Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Technology from the University of Cape Town, a Master of Education in Information Technology, and a Bachelor of Education in Basic Education (Mathematics) from the University of Cape Coast. He has a Bachelor of Laws degree from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). Prof. Aheto is a teacher by profession, with a 3-year Cert ‘A’ from the Presbyterian Training College.

Prof.Aheto has over two decades of experience in youth development work and close to twenty years in the field of ICTs. He serves on two significant committees by UNESCO and the International Association of Universities (IAU). In his role with UNESCO, he is a distinguished member and expert on the Steering Committee responsible for reviewing UNESCO's Internet Universality Indicators Framework.

He has consulted widely in his field for UNESCO, the Commonwealth Secretariat, the African Union, the Weltwärts Volunteer Program (the German government’s flagship programme) as a contact person for Ghana, Women in Law & Development in Africa (WiLDAF), Edify, the National Youth Authority of Ghana (NYA), the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC), the South African National Research Fund (NRF), the Lagos State Government, amongst others. Prof.Aheto is respected in his field and has served on many boards and committees in and out of the university and brings a very rich experience to the village.
